TATA IPL 2026 Match 25: Shubman Gill & Pace Duo Script Clinical Win in GT vs KKR
The Narendra Modi Stadium witnessed a masterclass in composure as the Gujarat Titans (GT) hunted down a challenging total to edge past the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets. By blending a fiery opening spell with a captain’s knock for the ages, the Titans secured their third consecutive win, while KKR’s season of discontent reached a new low with their sixth consecutive winless outing.

The Essentials
- The Skipper’s Masterclass: Shubman Gill played the role of the ultimate anchor and aggressor combined. His scintillating 86 off 50 balls was a clinic in risk-free acceleration, ensuring the Titans stayed ahead of the curve throughout a tricky 181-run chase.
- The Powerplay Destruction: Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada turned the first six overs into a nightmare for KKR. Siraj’s opening-ball dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane and Rabada’s triple-strike (3/29) left the visitors reeling at 37/3, a blow from which they never fully recovered.
- Green’s Gritty Rescue: In a lone-wolf effort, Cameron Green capitalised on two dropped catches to drag KKR to respectability. His 79 off 55 balls, featuring four massive sixes, turned a potential collapse into a fighting total of 180.
The Pulse
After KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane elected to bat, the decision immediately backfired. Mohammed Siraj (2/23) removed Rahane for a golden duck with a peach of a delivery, setting a grim tone for the visitors. Kagiso Rabada then took over, using raw pace to dismantle the top order and keep KKR “crawling” during the Powerplay. It took a resilient 122-run surge, led by Cameron Green and supported by Rovman Powell (27), to shift the momentum. Despite Green’s late-innings carnage, Ashok Sharma and the GT death-overs specialist pulled things back, bowling KKR out for 180 on the final ball.
GT’s response was a statement of intent. Jos Buttler (25 off 15) provided the initial fireworks, allowing the Titans to race to 71/1 in the Powerplay. When KKR’s spin twins, Varun Chakaravarthy (2/34) and Sunil Narine (1/28), tried to choke the scoring, Shubman Gill stood resolute. Balancing “elegant punishment” of bad balls with tactical strike rotation, Gill’s half-century off 27 balls broke the back of the chase. Despite a few late nerves following the dismissals of Gill and Glenn Phillips, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan showed ice-cold composure to finish the job with two balls to spare.

The Inside Intel
The tactical highlight was Shubman Gill’s approach to KKR’s spin threat. By choosing to target the pacers early and “neutralising” Narine and Chakaravarthy through expert strike rotation, he denied KKR the middle-over squeeze they usually rely on. On the bowling front, GT’s decision to pair Siraj’s swing with Rabada’s hit-the-deck pace in the Powerplay completely exploited Rahane’s struggle for form, forcing KKR into a defensive shell from the very first ball.
The UDHQ Take
At Unbox Daily HQ, we’re calling this “The Ahmedabad Anchor”. While the league is currently obsessed with 200+ scores, Shubman Gill reminded everyone that a perfectly paced 180-run chase is a work of art. For GT, the engine room is finally humming with three wins on the trot. For KKR, the alarm bells aren’t just ringing, they’re deafening. You can’t win games if your captain is walking back on ball one and your fielding hands out “extra lives” like candy.
