The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium was painted blue and gold as the Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a masterclass in tactical T20 cricket. With a commanding seven-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the Titans have officially signalled their resurgence, climbing into the top half of the table and ending LSG’s momentum in Match 19 of the TATA IPL 2026.

- The Krishna Comeback: Prasidh Krishna dismantled the LSG middle order with a clinical display of short-pitch bowling. His figures of 4/28 not only crippled the home side’s momentum but also catapulted him to the top of the Purple Cap leaderboard.
- The “Gill-Jos” Juggernaut: Chasing 165, Shubman Gill (56) and Jos Buttler (60) orchestrated a dominant 85-run partnership. Buttler, looked unstoppable, recording his second consecutive half-century and ensuring the run rate remained firmly under control.
- The Late Surge: Despite being squeezed for most of their innings, LSG managed a competitive total thanks to a frantic finish. Mohd. Shami and George Linde plundered 33 runs off the final two overs, momentarily swinging the momentum before GT’s batters took charge.

After winning the toss and opting to field, Gujarat’s pace battery immediately justified the decision. Kagiso Rabada and Mohd. Siraj struck early to remove Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant respectively, leaving LSG at 60/2 after the powerplay.
The middle overs belonged entirely to Prasidh Krishna. Utilizing the extra bounce, he snared Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran in quick succession, leaving LSG reeling at 110/5 with only five overs remaining. While a late cameo from Shami (12* off 5) pushed the total to 164/8, it felt underwhelming on a surface where GT’s openers eventually found plenty of purchase.
GT’s response was a lesson in measured aggression. While Sai Sudharsan fell early, the Gill-Buttler duo sucked the air out of the stadium. Buttler’s 60 off 37 balls was a highlight reel of 11 boundaries, while Gill played the anchor role to perfection. Even a double-strike from Shami and Prince Yadav couldn’t derail the chase, as Washington Sundar (21)* and Rahul Tewatia clinically closed the game with 8 balls to spare.

GT’s tactical blueprint was clear: Exploit the “short ball” weakness. Prasidh Krishna and Ashok Sharma consistently hit the deck hard, knowing the Lucknow pitch offered just enough zip to hurry the LSG batters. This forced the likes of Pooran and Badoni into mistimed pulls. On the batting front, the Buttler-Gill pairing is finally clicking; by having Gill anchor one end, Buttler is free to exploit the powerplay and middle overs without the pressure of a rising required rate. For LSG, the middle-order “squeeze” is becoming a pattern that Rishabh Pant will need to address before their next fixture.
