TATA IPL 2026 Match 18: Sanju Samson & Jamie Overton Secure CSK’s First Win in CSK vs DC
The MA Chidambaram Stadium finally witnessed the return of the "Whistle Podu" magic as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered their first win of the season. In a high-stakes encounter, CSK delivered a clinical 23-run victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC), ending their three-match losing streak and proving that the defending champions are back in the hunt for TATA IPL 2026.

- The Samson Storm: Sanju Samson played a masterpiece, smashing his maiden hundred for CSK. His unbeaten 115 off 56 balls, laced with 15 fours and four sixes; anchored the innings and propelled CSK to a formidable 212/2.

The momentum truly peaked during a 113-run stand between Samson and Ayush Mhatre (59). Delhi’s fielders struggled, dropping both batters and missing a crucial run-out opportunity. After Mhatre was retired out in the 18th over, Shivam Dube provided a quickfire 20 to set a target of 213.
In reply, DC’s openers, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul, came out swinging, racing to 61 in just 4.5 overs however the dismissal of Rahul triggered a collapse that saw DC slip to 76/4. Tristan Stubbs fought a lonely battle with a valiant 60 off 38 balls, but with Jamie Overton bowling a phenomenal spell of hit-the-deck pace, DC was eventually bowled out for 189 on the final ball.

The Inside Intel
CSK’s decision to move Sanju Samson into a primary aggressor role paid massive dividends. By allowing him to dominate the powerplay, CSK neutralized DC’s bowling depth early. Tactically, the use of Jamie Overton in the middle and death overs proved decisive; his ability to extract bounce on the Chepauk surface stifled DC’s power hitters. For Delhi, the concern is the middle-order fragility, losing four wickets for 15 runs essentially ended the contest before the halfway mark.
