Bentley Motors has unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric production car and a major new chapter for the British luxury marque. The model introduces a new design language while combining electric performance with Bentley’s traditional focus on handcrafted interiors and high-end materials.
The Torcal measures just over five metres in length and uses a short-overhang design. It offers a 90-litre front luggage compartment and a 460-litre rear boot, giving the electric SUV practical storage alongside its luxury-focused cabin.
Inside, Bentley has introduced several new material choices. The cabin can be specified with a 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, developed with Somerset-based Fox Brothers. The company has also introduced an Ombre wood veneer made by pressing up to 1,000 layers of walnut together before slicing the material into a thin veneer.
Bentley’s First Electric Model
The Torcal represents Bentley’s first fully electric production model and becomes the fourth model line in the company’s current range. It joins the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga while introducing a dedicated electric architecture and a new interpretation of Bentley design.

The Torcal uses the Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric architecture and features a 113.2 kWh battery. The standard Torcal produces up to 821 PS and 1,155 Nm, while the performance-oriented Torcal S raises those figures to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm when Launch Control is activated.
The Torcal S can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, while the standard Torcal completes the same sprint in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is 250 km/h for the Torcal and 260 km/h for the Torcal S.
600 km Range and 16-Minute Charging
Bentley quotes a maximum range of up to 600 km for the Torcal. The company also claims a 10-80% DC charging time of 16 minutes under the specified high-power charging conditions.
Bentley says a 350 kW charging station can add more than 150 miles of range in 10 minutes. Reports on the India launch have also noted that the country’s charging infrastructure does not currently offer chargers matching the highest charging capability associated with the Torcal.
Actual range will vary depending on driving conditions, temperature, speed, road conditions and use of climate-control systems. Therefore, the claimed 600 km figure should not be treated as a guaranteed real-world driving distance.
Advanced Suspension Replaces Conventional Anti-Roll Bars
The Torcal’s chassis technology is one of its most significant engineering features.
Bentley Active Ride uses a two-valve shock absorber at each wheel, with each damper connected to its own electrically controlled hydraulic pump. Bentley says the system can individually raise or lower the dampers and actively manage body movement.
The system eliminates conventional anti-roll bars and gives the Torcal a fully active approach to suspension and roll control. The Torcal also features all-wheel steering, with the rear wheels turning in the opposite direction at low speeds to reduce the turning circle to approximately 11 metres.
For a vehicle measuring roughly five metres long, that technology could be particularly useful in tight urban environments. However, how effectively it handles Indian potholes, speed breakers and uneven road surfaces can only be properly assessed through real-world testing.
Bentley Dynamic Symphony
Bentley has also approached the traditional problem of creating an emotional sound experience in an electric car differently.
The company’s Bentley Dynamic Symphony uses recordings of real instruments, including drums and viola, to create a soundscape that changes with the vehicle’s driving behaviour. Bentley says the system is designed to preserve an element of the sensory experience associated with its combustion-powered cars while moving into the electric era.
The cabin also offers different driving and ambience modes through Bentley’s Curation Engine, which can alter elements such as seating, lighting, sounds and climate settings depending on the selected mode.
Automated Parking and Driver Assistance
The Torcal comes with a suite of driver-assistance and automated parking technologies.
Its Garage Assist system can record the route into and out of a garage and subsequently perform the manoeuvre without the driver operating the steering wheel, accelerator or brake. The vehicle also offers Reversing Assist, which can remember the last 50 metres driven and assist with reversing along that route.
Selected markets also receive additional driver-assistance functionality through Bentley’s Touring Assist package. Availability and regulatory requirements vary by market, so these systems should not be assumed to operate identically in every country.

Bentley Torcal India Launch and Expected Price
The Torcal is expected to arrive in India in the second half of 2027. Reports expected starting price of around ₹4.5 crore, ex-showroom, although the final India price and variant structure will depend on Bentley’s launch plans.
Internationally, the Torcal range starts at around £173,000, according to reports following its global unveiling, while the more powerful Torcal S commands a higher price.
The Indian positioning will put the Torcal firmly into the ultra-luxury EV segment. Its combination of electric performance, handcrafted materials and Bentley’s brand positioning makes it a substantially different proposition from mainstream luxury electric SUVs.
Similar battery cruisers cater to very different wealthy buyers. The Rolls-Royce Spectre targets electric coupe purists at a steep ₹7.5 crore starting price. Buyers exploring alternative luxury formats will see how the Flagship 7 Series range arrives in India from Rs 1.95 crore to provide a traditional saloon experience.
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV delivers comparable interior space closer to ₹2.40 crore. The new Bentley occupies a distinct middle ground. It delivers a plush five-door layout while prioritizing daily-driver ride comfort over the aggressive track dynamics seen in the rival Ferrari Luce.
The Unboxed Truth
The Bentley Torcal is more than Bentley simply replacing an engine with batteries. Its fully active suspension, variable chassis control, powerful dual-motor setup and extensive cabin personalisation show how Bentley is attempting to translate its traditional luxury experience into an electric format.
India will present a different challenge. The Torcal’s claimed 600 km range and rapid charging figures depend on specific testing and charging conditions, while access to high-power charging infrastructure remains an important consideration for long-distance EV users.
For buyers with private charging facilities and access to Bentley’s service network, the Torcal could offer a distinctive combination of silent electric performance and traditional Bentley craftsmanship. Its suitability for extensive intercity travel in India will ultimately depend on charging infrastructure, real-world range and ownership support once the car arrives.
Best for: Luxury EV buyers in major Indian cities with private charging access.
Who Is This For: Buyers seeking a high-performance electric SUV with Bentley craftsmanship, advanced chassis technology and extensive luxury personalisation.
