Uber Air Flying Taxis: How to Book Joby eVTOLs on the Uber App

Uber and Joby Aviation are turning science fiction into everyday reality. Soon, you will be able to book an all-electric flying taxi directly through your standard Uber app. Launching first in Dubai later this year, this service promises to revolutionize city commutes by seamlessly connecting ground cabs with electric air transit.
The future of urban transportation is officially landing on our smartphones. Through a newly announced integration, Uber is introducing “Uber Air powered by Joby,” giving riders an exclusive first look at how they will book Joby Aviation’s electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft with a single tap.
The experience is designed to be completely frictionless and multi-modal. When you type your destination into the familiar “Where to?” bar, eligible routes will display an Uber Air option. Booking it will automatically coordinate your entire journey: an Uber Black will pick you up and drop you at the vertiport for your flight, and another premium ride will be waiting at your final destination.
Joby’s cutting-edge aircraft is built specifically for city integration. Powered by six tilting propellers, it takes off vertically, flies at speeds up to 200 mph, and boasts a range of up to 100 miles on a single charge. Crucially, it is engineered with multiple levels of redundancy for safety and features an acoustic profile so quiet it blends right into the ambient noise of bustling city streets. Capable of carrying up to four passengers and a certified commercial pilot, the service will kick off in Dubai later this year. Furthermore, Joby has completed over 50,000 miles of flight testing and is in the final stages of FAA certification in the US. With the recent acquisition of Blade’s passenger business, the companies plan to expand the service to New York, Los Angeles, the UK, and Japan.
Global Industry & Competition:
The global race to conquer the skies is heating up. While Joby and Uber are pioneering the integrated app approach, competitors like Archer Aviation, Lilium, and Volocopter are aggressively testing their own eVTOL aircraft. For the Indian audience, this technology hits close to home: InterGlobe Enterprises (the parent company of IndiGo) has already partnered with Archer Aviation to introduce a similar electric air taxi service in India, aiming to eventually cut the gruelling 60-minute commute from Connaught Place to Gurugram down to just 7 minutes. As global aviation regulations evolve, these zero-emission aircraft are set to become a standard pillar of modern public transit.
Trivia: Did you know that Uber actually started its own flying taxi division, called Uber Elevate, back in 2016? In a strategic move in 2021, Joby Aviation acquired the Elevate division. Now, years later, Joby is integrating that very technology back into the main Uber app to make the original vision a reality!
UDHQ Take: Imagine pulling out your phone during peak rush hour in Mumbai or Bengaluru. Instead of resigning yourself to a gruelling two-hour traffic jam, you simply book a quick, ten-minute flight over the city skyline. That is the exact reality this Uber and Joby integration is building towards. By weaving together luxury ground transport and quiet, emission-free air travel into one seamless booking, this isn’t just a flashy joyride, it is a fundamental shift in how we value our daily time. You don’t have to figure out how to get to a vertiport or hail a second cab; the app does all the heavy lifting, creating a true multi-modal transit system that connects every dot of your journey. While Dubai gets the first taste of this, the ripple effects will eventually reach heavily congested Indian megacities. For anyone exhausted by the daily grind of urban commutes, the arrival of integrated flying taxis feels like the ultimate, time-saving upgrade to modern living, offering us the absolute freedom to move effortlessly above the gridlock.
