Namo Bharat Full Corridor Launch: Delhi to Meerut in Under 60 Minutes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to officially inaugurate the full 82 km Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut RRTS corridor on February 22, 2026. This landmark event marks the completion of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, connecting the heart of Delhi at Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram in Meerut. Alongside the high-speed Namo Bharat service, the Prime Minister will also flag off the Meerut Metro, which will uniquely share the same infrastructure to provide seamless intra-city travel.
The final inauguration completes the strategically vital 5 km section in Delhi (Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar) and the 21 km northern extension in Meerut. This milestone transforms the National Capital Region’s mobility landscape by reducing the total end-to-end travel time between Delhi and Meerut to approximately 52 to 58 minutes, a massive drop from the typical 3-hour road journey. The Sarai Kale Khan hub now stands as a massive multimodal gateway, integrating the RRTS with the Delhi Metro Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and the ISBT.
Operating at a maximum speed of 160 kmph (with a design speed of 180 kmph), Namo Bharat trains will now see a frequency boost, arriving every 10 minutes instead of the current 15-minute intervals. Simultaneously, the 23 km Meerut Metro becomes the fastest metro system in India, operating at 120 kmph across 13 stations to ease local congestion. Safety remains a priority with the installation of Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) at all stations, while passenger comfort is elevated through premium coaches featuring reclining seats and luggage racks.
Globally, this project places India among an elite group of nations utilizing Transit Oriented Development (TOD) to foster high-speed regional hubs, like models seen in Tokyo, Singapore, and Paris. While traditional Metro systems are designed for short intra-city bursts, the RRTS is a “semi-high-speed” beast designed for longer distances, effectively standing as a superior alternative to both highways and standard passenger trains.
Trivia: The Meerut Metro is the first in India to use a “shared track” model where local metro trains and regional high-speed trains run on the exact same rails, maximizing infrastructure efficiency.
UDHQ Take: The full opening of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS is the ultimate “time-hack” for the modern Indian commuter. At Unbox Daily HQ, we see this as more than just a faster train; it’s a lifestyle reset. For years, living in Meerut while working in Delhi meant sacrificing 4–5 hours daily to brutal traffic or unreliable schedules. This corridor gives those hours back.
The value on the table is immense by making a 82 km journey feel like a quick cross-town hop, it effectively expands the boundaries of Delhi. It brings high-end “Premium Class” comfort, typically reserved for international travel, to the daily grind. Whether you are a student, a professional, or an investor watching property prices surge by up to 67% near stations, the RRTS is the new backbone of NCR. It’s about choosing a stress-free, air-conditioned ride over a soul-crushing highway jam, and that is a life-upgrade you can’t put a price on.
