Bharat-VISTAAR: India’s AI-Powered ‘Digital Krishi Advisor’ Launches in Jaipur

Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched Bharat-VISTAAR. It is a landmark AI-driven Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). It serves as a 24/7 smart assistant, providing farmers instant access to weather, market prices, and 10+ essential government schemes through a single voice call, chatbot, or mobile interface.
The Lowdown: Real-Time AI Expertise for the Indian Field
The historic launch of Bharat-VISTAAR (Virtually Integrated System to Access Agricultural Resources) took place in Jaipur, alongside Rajasthan CM Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma. Developed to make Indian agriculture “smart,” this platform acts as a unified “digital gateway” that eliminates the need for farmers to visit multiple offices or portals.
In its Phase-1 launch, the system integrates high-velocity, real-time data from the IMD (weather), AgMarkNet (mandi prices), and the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS). Crucially, it provides a one-stop solution for 10 major central schemes:
- PM-KISAN (Benefit tracking & complaint registration)
- PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
- Soil Health Card (SHC)
- Kisan Credit Card (KCC)
- PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana
- Agriculture Infrastructure Fund
- Modified Interest Subvention Scheme
- Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization
- Per Drop More Crop
- PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan
Farmers can use the Voice-First AI assistant ‘Bharati’ via the helpline 155261, which works even on simple feature phones. The event also featured the unveiling of the ‘AI for Agriculture Roadmap’, ‘AgriKosh’ (a scientific knowledge hub), and the announcement of an ‘AI Hackathon’ to drive further rural innovation.
Trivia: Bharat-VISTAAR operates on a “plug-and-play” model similar to UPI. It doesn’t just store data; it connects existing state systems like Maharashtra’s MahaVistaar and Bihar’s BiharKrishi into one national-level agriculture digital network.
UDHQ Take: Why This is the ‘UPI Moment’ for Indian Farmers
At Unbox Daily HQ (UDHQ), we believe Bharat-VISTAAR is the most significant leap for rural India since the mobile revolution. For decades, farmers were stuck in an “information vacuum,” forced to navigate complex government portals or rely on middlemen for scheme updates. By consolidating everything from scientific ICAR advice to real-time mandi rates into one conversation with ‘Bharati’, the government has effectively democratized elite agricultural expertise.
The real value lies in the Voice-First approach. By allowing a farmer to check their PM-KISAN status or get a pest alert in their native language (moving to 11 languages within 6 months), Bharat-VISTAAR bridges the digital literacy gap. This is not just an app; it is a “Digital Safety Net” that reduces the mental burden of farming, ensuring every decision from sowing to selling is backed by secure, verified data. For the Indian farmer, this is the ultimate tool for dignity, transparency, and long-term prosperity.
