Range Rover has opened order books for the Range Rover Sport Electric in India, marking the arrival of the first fully electric model in the Range Rover Sport family.

The SUV is expected to reach Indian customers by March 2027 as a completely built import. An Indian ex-showroom price has not yet been officially announced, although current estimates place it at around ₹2.40 crore to ₹2.50 crore.

The Sport Electric combines a large 118.5kWh battery with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and retains the off-road hardware expected from the Range Rover Sport name.

Range Rover claims a 0–100km/h acceleration time of 4.5 seconds, putting its straight-line performance in the territory of the V8-powered Range Rover Sport. The manufacturer also says the electric powertrain delivers its peak torque more quickly than the larger Range Rover Electric.

The SUV is based on JLR’s 800V MLA-Flex architecture and uses the same 118.5kWh battery capacity as the Range Rover Electric.

609km Claimed Range

The Sport Electric has a claimed 609km WLTP range from its 118.5kWh battery.

That figure is a laboratory-certified WLTP figure, so actual driving range will vary depending on speed, weather, temperature, road conditions, payload and driving style.

The SUV supports DC charging at up to 350kW. Under the specified high-power charging conditions, Range Rover claims the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes. A 10-minute charging session can add up to 220km of claimed range, according to the manufacturer.

For Indian owners, actual charging times will depend heavily on the output of the charger being used. A 350kW-rated charging system is required to approach the headline charging performance, and lower-powered public chargers will take longer.

Built for More Than Straight-Line Performance

Range Rover has not simply converted the Sport into an electric vehicle by adding a large battery.

The Sport Electric gets a revised chassis setup designed around the requirements of the electric powertrain. Its suspension hardware includes Dynamic Air Suspension and Twin Valve Dampers, while Electronic Active Roll Control and All-Wheel Steering are also part of the package.

The vehicle retains the Range Rover Sport’s off-road capabilities, including a claimed 45-degree maximum incline and 900mm water-wading capability.

That combination is important because the Sport Electric is positioned as a full Range Rover rather than an electric luxury SUV intended only for paved roads.

Four Variants for India

The Range Rover Sport Electric is offered in four variants:

VariantPositioning
Dynamic SEEntry variant
Dynamic HSEHigher equipment level
AutobiographyLuxury-focused variant
First EditionLaunch-specification model

The First Edition gets Zadar Grey exterior paint, a Satin Wrap, black contrast roof and 22-inch alloy wheels. Buyers choosing the Autobiography can also access Range Rover Bespoke, allowing additional exterior and interior personalisation.

Premium Cabin and Technology

The cabin closely follows the design of the combustion-powered Range Rover Sport.

It features a 13.7-inch digital driver’s display alongside a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. The screens include EV-specific information and displays.

Equipment includes four-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, rear sunblinds and powered, heated and ventilated seats for the front and rear passengers. The SUV retains a five-seat layout.

Customisation is a growing focus at this price point, as a separate ultra-luxury SUV added hand-blended gradient exterior finishes to its bespoke programme recently. The First Edition secures a black contrast roof.

Battery Warranty

The 118.5kWh battery is covered by a standard eight-year or 1,60,000km warranty, whichever comes first.

This is an important consideration for buyers evaluating a large luxury EV, particularly given the vehicle’s expected long-term ownership period.

The Sport Electric also incorporates software-based vehicle management and connected technology, allowing Range Rover to update and improve supported vehicle systems over time.

Expected India Price and Import Status

The Range Rover Sport Electric will arrive in India as a completely built unit (CBU).

Current reports estimate an Indian price of approximately ₹2.50 crore ex-showroom, while earlier estimates have placed the range around ₹2.40–2.50 crore. These remain estimates until Range Rover officially announces the Indian price.

The imported electric SUV is also expected to remain outside the tariff concessions available under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, according to current reporting.

For context, the non-SV combustion-powered Range Rover Sport currently sits around ₹1.43 crore to ₹1.60 crore ex-showroom, making the electric version substantially more expensive based on current estimates.

What Indian Buyers Should Consider

The Sport Electric’s headline 350kW charging capability is impressive, but the real-world charging experience will depend on the infrastructure available along an owner’s regular routes.

At home, a suitable AC charging installation can provide a more predictable way to replenish the battery overnight. On long-distance journeys, owners will need to plan around compatible high-power DC charging locations rather than assume that every public charger can reproduce the advertised 22-minute figure.

This is particularly relevant for a large luxury EV intended for both urban use and long-distance travel.

The Unboxed Truth

The Range Rover Sport Electric is not simply an electric alternative to the existing Sport. It attempts to preserve the model’s combination of luxury, performance and serious off-road capability while moving to a fully electric powertrain.

For Indian buyers, however, the biggest questions will be final pricing, charging access and real-world range once customer cars begin arriving.

The estimated ₹2.5 crore positioning places it well above the regular combustion-powered Sport, but the electric model brings a 609km claimed WLTP range, 550hp dual-motor performance and genuine Range Rover off-road hardware into the package.

For buyers who can charge conveniently at home and have access to suitable fast-charging infrastructure on longer journeys, those characteristics will be central to the ownership proposition.

Best for: Luxury SUV buyers who want an electric Range Rover without giving up serious off-road capability.

Who Is This For: Early EV adopters who have reliable home charging, value premium luxury and want the combination of electric performance and Range Rover’s off-road hardware.

When will Range Rover Sport Electric deliveries begin in India?

First customer deliveries of the Range Rover Sport Electric in India are expected to begin by March 2027. Order books have opened for prospective buyers, although the exact delivery schedule can vary by variant and customer order.
The SUV will arrive in India as a completely built unit (CBU). Current reporting indicates that it is not expected to receive tariff concessions under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement.

How does the Range Rover Sport Electric differ from the standard combustion model?

The Range Rover Sport Electric has been engineered with several chassis changes to accommodate its electric powertrain.
Range Rover says the structure is 61 percent stiffer, while the centre of gravity is 73mm lower than the combustion-powered Sport. The electric model retains the family’s off-road capability, including a claimed 900mm water-wading depth and 45-degree incline capability.
Its dedicated chassis hardware includes Dynamic Air Suspension, Twin Valve Dampers, Electronic Active Roll Control and All-Wheel Steering. These systems are intended to balance the additional weight and performance characteristics of the electric powertrain with the Sport’s road and off-road requirements.

Is the Range Rover Sport Electric worth buying?

The Range Rover Sport Electric could suit buyers who want a luxury electric SUV without giving up the off-road capabilities associated with the Range Rover Sport.
Its 118.5kWh battery, dual-motor AWD system, 550hp output and claimed 609km WLTP range give it a strong specification on paper. However, long-distance usability will depend on the availability and power of compatible charging infrastructure along the owner’s regular routes.
The claimed 10–80 percent charging time of 22 minutes applies when using suitable high-power DC charging infrastructure. Lower-powered chargers will naturally require more time.
Final buying verdict: Consider the Sport Electric if you have convenient home charging and want the combination of electric performance, luxury and serious off-road capability. If your priorities are frequent long-distance travel, charging convenience or lower purchase cost, compare the electric model’s final Indian price and charging requirements with the available combustion-powered Sport variants before deciding.
